Day 18, the 5th of May\nDown and out of Paris
\nThe day dawns overcast, I am leaving Paris.
\nI follow the coule vert, the green route, southwest from montparnasse station as far as I can before I become lost in suburban townships. The notes I took down late last night, that might make a good route to Orleans don’t make any sense. My anger is only intensified when I get a puncture in a new rear inner tube, then break of the valve, after fixing it,\u00a0 with my furious pumping. My fresh showered skin is back to being grease stained grey, like I’ve just murdered a mythical black blooded creature with my bare hands. To make matter worse, my rear rack snaps at a joint, and I must cable tie on the loose piece.
\nFortuantely I come across one of the list of D-roads that i have written down on the back of a museum guide. And from here the going is good, away from traffic, along the Valley Saint Germain.
\nIn my haste to leave this morning (and my general disgust at the cost of things in Paris) I haven’t got anything to eat with me, so I do a big shop, and wallow up some hills to take a very late lunch. Its about 5, and the lunch spot is so relaxing after the dramas of the day, that I decided to spend the night. I have leanrt now, from recent experience that I should not pass up too many good sites. I pitch my tent next to a low bench, that will serve as my table for a completely undeserved meal, after only 70km today.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
